NEWSLETTER ~ NOVEMBER 2005

Dear Parents

BOOK WEEK

Book week was a great success and enjoyed by all. Thank you for your support during the week, especially in providing costumes and purchasing books from the book fair. Polly Howat enthralled us all with her story telling and we are especially grateful to the work of the 'Friends' in providing funds for activities such as this to take place.

Books to the value of £546 were received in commission from the Book Fair. This was 100% of total sales and provides the School with an annual boost of new fiction and picture books.

We have taken photographs of ?dressing up' day but would love to see any that you have.

VISITS AND VISITORS

Bob Green, Deputy Head of Bishops Wood Centre spent a day in school at the end of last half term working with the children in Years 3 & 4. Together they rebuilt the 'base camp' and completed various other tasks.

The following activities have taken place as part of the Vision Mapping Project:

Lower Key Stage 1 children walked to Saldon's Farm, Himbleton last half term and spent the day getting to know the farm. We had a great day and look forward to our return visit next Friday.

Upper Key Stage 1 children were taken on a guided tour of the village by Maurice Jenkins. They had a wonderful time visiting his special places and entertained them with tales of when he was a lad in the village.

Lower Key Stage 2 children met Roma and Gilbert Parker last half term. They both talked to the children about their life in the village. They were also entertained with many stories.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Outdoor PE will continue within school grounds for as long as weather permits. However, children will need a warm tracksuit (named) in addition to their usual PE kit. Girls will also need socks if they wear tights to school.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Miss Jennifer Cornelissen, a pupil at Pershore High School and a past pupil of Himbleton, will be spending the week in school this week as part of her Health and Social Care Course. She will work with children throughout the school.

REMEMBRANCE DAY

We will be holding a special assembly in School on Friday 11th November that will include two minutes silence. All children and staff will wear poppies on that day. Should you wish to make a donation towards the 'Poppy Appeal' poppies will be available in the playground at the beginning and end of each day.

MEDICATION

As winter draws closer, the need for medication increases. For the safety of our children, I would like to remind you of the following arrangements:

- Only prescribed medications will be accepted in school.

- Medication must be named.

- Dosage, with times, must be clearly written on the bottle/container.

- A covering letter must accompany the medication giving permission for a responsible adult to administer it.

- Medication must be delivered to and collected from the office at the beginning and end of the day by an adult (not a child).

Please note:

If doses can be administered at home then we will always ask you to do this.

Present arrangements for medication for asthma sufferers still apply.

SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS

In very severe weather conditions, messages are broadcast on local radio stations about school closures. BBC Hereford and Worcester radio gives out these details at regular intervals during their early morning broadcasts. Please tune in if weather conditions are poor and listen for instructions.

As you are aware there is always an additional possibility of flooding in the village during periods of heavy rain. Again, please listen to BBC Hereford and Worcester Radio and I will endeavour to have messages broadcasted giving the safest travelling route. The advice given will be based on me travelling to school and checking the routes myself. We will endeavour to keep the School open; however, this does depend on safe conditions.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS

Arrangements are underway and full details will follow shortly in a separate letter.

SCHOOL CLOSURE DAYS - Reminder

School is closed on: Friday 9th December 2005

Monday 19th, Tuesday 20th & Wednesday 21st December 2005

Please note that other schools may be open.

Yours sincerely
