Maurice's Special Places in Himbleton
Upper Key Stage 1 children and Mrs Gwillaim looked around Himbleton with Maurice who lives very close to the school. Photos were taken and video and the children wrote a written account. Here they are.
Maurice's World Himbleton is a special to Maurice because he has lived here and worked here all his life! He took us round the village and showed us all his special places. He told us lots of stories about things he did in Himbleton ~ some sad, some funny and some wicked! This is a record of our very special day with Maurice |
Himbleton Manor
Maurice has worked at Himbleton Manor all his life, He looks after the gardens. When he was a boy he was scared of Lord Sandys and was afraid to go there! | |||
Football on the Road
When Maurice was a little boy he used to play football in the road. It must have been fun. The goal posts were the gate posts of Brook House and the sign posts. It was good playing there because there were no cars. | |||
The Clock Tower
Maurice rings the bells for church and winds up the clock.

The Post Office
This used to be the post office. |
The Village Hall
The village hall looked the same as it does now! Maurice went dancing there on Saturday nights. | |||
The Meeting Place
The Meeting Place was next to Brook House. Maurice and his friends used to meet there. There are two big grinding stones and one of the lights stood on top. | |||
Maurice's Special Place
Maurice showed us his special place. Mrs Gwilliam took a picture under the bridge. Maurice hid there from policemen! | |||
The Apple Store All the apples that Maurice picked at the Manor were kept in the apple store. There were two kinds of apples - Bramleys and Coxes.
The Apple Grader The apple grader is a machine which sorts the apples into the same size..They drop down into wooden boxes. |
The Galton Pub
There used to be a shop in one half of tthe pub. It was run by Mrs Gill. Maurice is the licensee of The Galton. He has his name over the door!
The Village Store
The village store was in the Galton Arms and it sold EVERYTHING! Maurice showed us under the rug where Mrs Gill the shopkeeper had stood behind the counter. The floor was all worn.
Getting the Cane
Once Maurice had been having a fight with his Mum before school. So he picked all the daffodils in the school garden to give to her to make her happier. But he had to bend over and have the cane on his bottom!
